Masuma AC recharge hose with gauge

The freon recharge hose is intended for self-refilling of a car air conditioner. It is fully compatible with the Masuma HFC-134a refrigerant cylinder.

The hose has a puncture valve for a cylinder with a thread of M14×1.25 mm, a pressure gauge for monitoring the freon pressure and an adapter for quick connecting to the low-pressure line of the air conditioner.

The hose can be used with the following refrigerants: R134A, R12, R22.

Air Conditioner Self-Refilling Guide

Step 1. Prepare the hose and the cylinder.

  • On the hose ends put on respectively the adapter and the puncture valve. Fully open the valve by rotating its handle counterclockwise to avoid puncturing the cylinder too early.
  • Turn the refrigerant cylinder onto the puncture valve until it stops. Then fully close the valve by rotating its handle clockwise to move its needle most forward and puncture the cylinder.
  • Shake the cylinder and open the valve for one handle turn. Slightly loosen the adapter on the other hose end (but don't remove it) and wait 2–3 seconds, so the freon displaces the air from the hose. Tighten the adapter back and close the valve.

Step 2. Check the system pressure

Important: the freon pressure in the system depends on the outside air temperature. Recommended refilling temperature: 20–25 °C.

  • Open all the car doors, start the engine, turn on the maximum airflow with outside air intake, turn on the conditioner and wait for the cold flow stability.
  • Open the car hood and connect the hose adapter to the filling port of the low-pressure line of the air conditioner (usually it has a cap with the letter L).
  • Check the hose pressure gauge. If the hand is in the middle of the blue sector
(2.8–3 kg/cm of the outer scale), you don't need to refill the freon. In case of lower values, proceed to the next step — refilling.

Note: if the air conditioner compressor works, but the pressure gauge hand shows the yellow or red sector, it means that the freon pressure is too high and needs dumping. To do this, fully close the cylinder valve and slightly loosen the adapter for a few seconds. Tighten the adapter and check the freon pressure again with the air conditioner compressor running.

Step 3. Refill the conditioner

  • Leave the engine and air conditioner running. Close the car doors, turn on the minimum airflow with the inside air intake.
  • Keep the refrigerant cylinder bottom up during refilling. Shake it and open the valve by 1/4 turn of the handle (until it opens), the pressure gauge hand will start moving. Increase the freon supply by opening the valve until 4 turns. Then the cylinder and the hose will get significantly colder.
  • When the pressure reaches 2.8–3.3 kg/cm (with the compressor running), close the valve completely. Observe the pressure gauge and the operation process of the air conditioner: the compressor must be connected at 2.8–3 kg /cm and disconnected when the pressure drops to 1.7–1.8 kg/cm. During this time the hand of the pressure gauge must remain in the blue sector.
  • If the hand of the pressure gauge reached the green sector, open the valve once again and continue refilling, paying attention to the pressure value.

Note: if the hand couldn't reach the required pressure value and the pressure started falling, then the freon is not enough, you need a second cylinder. Close the valve, disconnect the hose adapter fro the line and repeat all the procedure with another cylinder.

Step 4. After the refilling:

  • Close the cylinder valve completely. Disconnect the hose from the air conditioner line by pulling the outer blue ring of the adapter.
  • Store the hose connected to the cylinder, even if it is absolutely empty, to prevent air and dust ingress. If the cylinder still contains some freon, you can use it once more.
