Masuma expands its range of electrical components with new steering wheel clock springs (spiral cables).
In modern vehicles, the steering wheel is far more than just a steering control — it integrates numerous electronic systems, including the horn, airbag, multimedia controls, cruise control, and other functions. Since all these components rotate together with the steering wheel, they require a dedicated electrical connection — the clock spring.
A clock spring consists of a flexible flat ribbon cable wound into a spiral inside a plastic housing. This design allows the cable to rotate together with the steering wheel through multiple turns in both directions without damaging the wiring.
CLOCK SPRING FAILURES
The flexible ribbon cable inside the clock spring is constantly subjected to mechanical stress as it bends and moves during steering wheel rotation. Over time, the cable can wear out and lose signal continuity. Clock springs are also sometimes damaged during improper steering wheel installation.
A faulty clock spring may cause several electrical issues, including:
- airbag warning light activation;
- horn failure;
- steering wheel button malfunction;
- cruise control failure.
In some cases, the symptoms only appear at certain steering wheel positions, while a completely broken ribbon cable is often accompanied by unusual noises during steering wheel rotation.
MASUMA CLOCK SPRINGS

Masuma clock springs are designed to match OEM specifications exactly, ensuring easy installation and reliable operation of all electronic systems. Their construction incorporates wear-resistant materials and advanced engineering solutions:
- flexible multi-strand copper ribbon cables resistant to repeated bending cycles;
- contact terminals with anti-corrosion coating for stable conductivity;
- durable plastic housings resistant to temperature fluctuations and vibration.
All Masuma clock springs undergo multi-stage quality control for material durability and electrical conductivity, as well as testing for repeated rotation cycles, vibration resistance, and temperature stability.
The current range includes clock springs for Japanese vehicle brands, including TOYOTA, LEXUS, HONDA, NISSAN, MITSUBISHI, and MAZDA. The lineup is constantly expanding — check availability for your vehicle using the Masuma Parts Finder.
